Woodbury, MN 55125

The clinic is located in Woodbury, MN, which is just 15-20 minutes from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport and world renowned Mall of America.

The operating suite at MMHC's National Vasectomy Reversal Center was designed solely for the performance of microsurgical vasectomy reversals. Without the use of microsurgical techniques, vasectomy reversal is successful in only 40-50% of cases.

This surgery center is fully accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. All of the equipment in the OR is state of the art including the operating microscope, the OR table and the ventilator, which is used for providing either intravenous sedation with local or general anesthesia.

The procedure is done under a microscope and takes only 11/2 - 2 hours to complete. If performed by Dr. Douglas Schow, a board-certified urologist specializing in the evaluation and treatment of male infertility and microsurgical vasectomy reversals.

Dr Schow completed Medical School at the University of Minnesota and his residency in Urological Surgery at the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont. He went on to complete a Fellowship in Male Infertility and Erectile Dysfunction at the University of Minnesota. He served as Staff Urologist and the director of The Center for Male Infertility and Microsurgery at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas for four years. After retiring from the military, Dr. Schow returned to Minnesota to become the director of The Minnesota Men's Health Center.

Dr. Schow's personal statistics for patency rates (defined as more than one million sperm in the ejaculate) after vasectomy reversals based on review of the last 700 patients are:
  • 97% if Dr Schow performs a bilateral vasovasostomy (no matter how long it has been since your original vasectomy)
  • 95% for all patients including redo procedures and patients up to 38 years from the vasectomy

Of the patients that have provided information regarding pregnancy, 50% of couples achieved a pregnancy within the first year after the reversal, some as soon as one month after the reversal.

Dr. Schow is both nationally and internationally recognized as an expert in microsurgical vasectomy reversals. Patients have traveled from as far away as Japan, China, Spain and Australia to have their vasectomy reversal performed at MMHC. Dr. Schow performs about 200-225 vasectomy reversals annually.

Dr. Schow offers a monetary refund for men who undergo a vasectomy reversal (either vasovasostomy or vasoepididymostomy) and fail to achieve achieve one million sperm in their ejaculate by one year from the vasectomy reversal. The vasectomy reversal must be performed by Dr. Schow at The Minnesota Men's Health Center. The monetary refund is based on a sliding scale depending on which type of vasectomy reversal procedure is performed by Dr. Schow (regardless of how long it has been since the vasectomy). This sliding scale is outlined below.

Type of Procedure Performed Monetary Refund if not greater than one million sperm in the ejaculate at either 2, 6 or 12 months after surgery
Bilateral vasovasostomy $3,000
a) Unilateral vasovasostomy
b) Vasoepididymosotomy - unilateral or bilateral
$1,500
Redo vasectomy reversals $1,500

For many patients, Dr. Schow's refund program and reasonable costs justify the expense of traveling to MMHC for a vasectomy reversal.
